Learning from people older than you

I have always had friends and mentors that have been older than me. In fact my business partners were on average 20 to 25 years older than me. As a kid, I always enjoyed sitting at the adult table. Maybe that is why I seem to have done some things earlier in life. You can never under estimate the knowledge and wisdom from those who have walked the road before you.  No matter what you do in life, most likely someone you know has done it before and it is an opportunity to watch and learn. Yesterday I connected and had lunch with one of those special people in my life. He is in 80"s and going through some challenges at home. His wife is showing some signs of dementia and it has turned his life around. We sat over lunch for a couple of hours and it was so nice to spend some time with him. In my eyes, this man has lived a life of high morals, dedicated his life to the community and the education system having spent over 40 years as a trustee of the school board. I met him years ago, he was one of my best clients and we quickly became friends. We enjoyed spending hours talking about life, family and leadership. When he retired I gave in an office in my business and gave him a side gig doing some representation and sales in my business.  His reputation in the community was a big asset and our business grew with his help. I am forever grateful for his friendship.
